Charles W. England Scholarship Winners!
Lukas Mellander

Lukas Mellander is a graduate of Maine-Endwell High School. He particularly enjoys composition, and early jazz and ragtime music. He credits his high school band director, Local 380-443 member Jackie Kovacs, with inspiring him to pursue music education and playing a major role in his love of music. Lukas will be attending SUNY Fredonia in the fall of 2025. He plans to major in Music Education and pursue a job as a high school music teacher.
Austin Greenmun

Austin Greenmun is a graduate of Chenango Valley High School. Austin’s main instrument is euphonium, which he’s played for 9 years, although he plays sev-eral others, most notably tuba, baritone saxophone, and trumpet. He was the principal tuba player of the Binghamton Youth Symphony Orchestra for five years. He’s been to All State two times, first chair and second chair, and to All County four times, all being first and second chair. He’s also taken private lessons for three years with Karla Jensen. Austin will be attending SUNY Fredonia this fall. He will be majoring in music education, and will be doing a minor in euphonium performance.
Xavier Pagano

Xavier Pagano is a graduate of Corning Painted-Post High School. He plays an assortment of different instruments: trumpet, cello, and clarinet, his main instrument, which he started in 2016. He has played in the New York District 13 Area All-State band three years consecutively, gaining a higher placement each year, and plays clarinet in the Corning Community Band. At CPP, Xavier served as section leader for the high woodwinds in the Competition Band. He also composes music when he’s not playing. He has created many different pieces in various genres. Xavier will be attending Ithaca College in the fall.
